U.S. Census Bureau Data Helps Hurricane Dorian Efforts

The following is a cross-post from the U.S. Census Bureau

Hurricane Dorian is an active tropical cyclone currently threatening Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. The fourth named storm of the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season, Dorian developed from a tropical wave in the Central Atlantic. Dorian is a small but potent storm.

The U.S. Census Bureau produces timely local data that are critical to emergency planning, preparedness, and recovery efforts.

On Wednesday August 29, 2019, the Census Bureau activated its Emergency Preparedness and Response Team (EPRT) ahead of Hurricane Dorian.

The EPRT's responsibility is to disseminate important Census Bureau demographic and economic data to the public, press, elected officials, and federal, state, local emergency management officials.

To access the U.S. population and workforce statistics, in real time, for areas being affected by Dorian, go to the Census Bureau's On the Map for Emergency Management.

In addition, the Census Business Builder: Regional Analyst Edition includes over 150 demographic and economic variables for all potentially impacted counties and municipios.

Please visit the National Hurricane Center for the latest updates on Hurricane Dorian.
