Manufacturing Still Among Top Five U.S. Employers

The manufacturing sector has a major impact on the U.S. economy. This week the Commerce Department's U.S. Census Bureau recognizes just how big an impact.

Held every year on the first Friday in October, Manufacturing Day (MFG Day) showcases the contributions of this key economic sector. MFG Day helps show the reality of modern manufacturing careers by encouraging thousands of companies and educational institutions around the nation to open their doors to students, parents, teachers and community leaders. MFG Day empowers manufacturers to come together to address their collective challenges so they can help their communities and future generations thrive.

The U.S. Census Bureau joined other agencies and posted important manufacturing content on the Manufacturing Day webpage and provided rich content, including statistics that inform businesses and policymakers. Collectively, the data paint a picture of the state of this vital economic sector.

To see all aspects of the manufacturing industry in the United States including the number of people employed in manufacturing, where manufacturing ranks among the nation’s largest employers, how manufacturing compares to other industries, and how manufacturing contributes to U.S. exports, please go to https://www.census.gov/library/stories/2020/10/manufacturing-still-amon…
