Applicant

The Personal Identity Verification (PIV) Applicant is a current or prospective Department of Commerce (DOC) employee, contractor, or visitor, and is considered an Applicant until his or her identity has been verified using the new process and he or she is deemed suitable for access to Federal facilities and information systems.  This is true even if an individual already has a current “ID” or “badge” issued by the Department or one of its bureaus.

TRAININGClick here to access the training required for all current and prospective DOC employees, contractors, and visitors.  Each PIV applicant must complete this training and retain his or her certificate of completion before being issued a PIV card. Be sure to print out and retain your certificate of completion with your Applicant ID Number.  You will need this number to receive a PIV card. (The Applicant ID number will be needed for the CD-591 as well as the HSPD-12 Contractor Sponsorship in the COR section).

If you should have any questions about the training, please contact the Office of Security at [email protected].

For New Employees and Contractors:

To obtain a PIV card, you must:

STEP 1: Complete the training above, print the certificate and give to the Enrollment Official, Sponsor, or COR (contractors). If you are a contractor, the PIV training number on the certificate is used as the applicant id for the HSPD-12 Contractor Sponsorship form.

STEP 2: Complete the appropriate background investigation forms as directed by your Sponsor or COR.  Based upon the sensitivity and risk level of your position, your PIV Sponsor will tell you which standard form you will need to complete.

STEP 3: In some locations, your finger prints will be taken electronically by the Office of Security in one of the Servicing Security Offices. In all other instances, your PIV Sponsor will give you the appropriate fingerprint cards and recommended locations to have your fingerprints taken.
