Transit benefits

Metro

Metro subsidies are a financial incentive to encourage employees to use public transportation to get to and from work. You are entitled to the subsidy as long as you use public transportation for your work commute on:

  • Metro subway/bus
  • Virginia Railway Express (VRE)
  • MARC trains, or
  • Other eligible commuter buses, and vanpools.

The amount of the subsidy equals the actual amount paid for public transportation, not to exceed a set amount per month (currently $130/month).

The Departmental Office of Facilities and Environmental Quality has more information about metro subsidies at http://www.osec.doc.gov/ofeq/OSBM/default.htm

The Washington DC Metro Transit Authority’s web site also has great information at: Smart Trip http://www.wmata.com/riding/smartrip.cfm
