When OPM announces a delayed arrival due to an emergency condition that occurs before the workday begins, a delayed arrival may be announced. This means:
- You will be excused from work relative to your normal start time. For example, if a 2-hour delayed arrival is announced and you normally arrival at the office at 8 a.m., you would be authorized to arrive at 10 a.m.
- Your supervisor can excuse your tardiness beyond the announced late arrival time if you made a reasonably diligent effort to get to work on time.
Other factors your supervisor will consider when making this determination and the amount of additional excused absence are:
- Distance
- Availability and mode of transportation
- The success of other employees in similar situations in reaching the worksite
