Organ Donations

You may be granted up to 30 days of excused absence per calendar year in addition to annual and sick leave, and any other form of leave for organ donation and recovery. You may also be granted an additional seven (7) days of excused absence per calendar year (in addition to annual and sick leave, and any other form of leave to the employee's credit) specifically for bone marrow donation and recovery.

You may also request additional recovery time in excess of the times above but this requires supervisory approval and you must use your personal leave such as:

  • Annual leave
  • Sick leave
  • Advanced annual or sick leave
  • Accrued compensatory time
  • Accrued compensatory time off for travel
  • Accrued credit hours (if on a flexible alternative work schedule)
  • Leave without pay

Your supervisor may also authorize short periods of excused absence from duty so that you can participate in screening activities to become a potential bone marrow or living organ donor.
