Charging Sick Leave to Annual Leave

If you have an approved absence charged to sick leave, it may charged to annual leave if you request it before you actually use it. However, you can’t substitute annual leave for sick leave already granted and used to avoid forfeiting your annual leave at the end of the leave year.

You can also liquidate advanced sick leave by a charge against your annual leave if it’s done before the annual leave would be forfeited and if the annual leave would have been granted for current use. You may also retroactively substitute leave subject to forfeiture if the illness for which annual leave is to be charged began well before the end of the year and you did not control the charging of all the time to sick leave.
